Chickens are one of the most common and widespread domestic animals, there was a population of 23.7 billion as of 2018. There are more chickens than any other bird. They are omnivores and in the wild often scratch at the soil for seeds and insects. Hens will often try to lay in nests that already contain eggs and have been known to move eggs from other nests into their own. Most chickens are raised in captivity. Their habitat often consists of a factory farm setting. In the wild they have two primary habitats, their feeding areas usually consist of open canopies and underlying shrubs while roosting sites are typically found in lower tree branches and are used at night. In captivity they require the same dual-habitat area. Frequently, this includes a chicken coop and a fenced-in outdoor area. They are to be found worldwide .

Independent Review | These are the views of the independent Good Toy Guide experts on the play value of our animals: "These wooden collectible animal figures are fantastic for open-ended and imaginative play, which is the superfood of a healthy play diet. This is because it provides so many opportunities for children to build social skills, make sense of the world around them and develop language. As they play together and form a story, children have to negotiate roles, listen to others, use creativity and practice speech to communicate what is happening. The animals also feature beautiful detailing including ridges and curves which makes them very tactile and calming to touch. They proved very sturdy too, standing up to vigorous and messy play. It would be lovely to build up a collection of the figures over time to play with, that could then be handed down between family or friends." |
