Seagulls are medium to small birds, usually grey or white, with black markings on the head or wings. They live in coastal areas all over the world. The common gull looks like a small version of the herring gull, with greenish legs and a yellow bill. They are also seen more often in towns and on housing estates in winter.  In summer, look along coasts and inland marshes and lakes of Scotland, N Ireland and N England. Elsewhere in England and Wales, they can be seen in the winter on farmland, near lakes and marshes and on the coast.  Gulls nest in large, densely packed and noisy colonies. They lay two or three speckled eggs in nests composed of vegetation. They feed on a  wide range of prey including fish and freshwater invertebrates, both alive and already dead, terrestrial arthropods and invertebrates such as insects and earthworms, rodents, eggs, reptiles. Also, plant items such as seeds and fruit, human refuse and chips! They can drink both fresh and salt water.

Independent Review These are the views of the independent Good Toy Guide experts on the play value of our animals: "These wooden collectible animal figures are fantastic for open-ended and imaginative play, which is the superfood of a healthy play diet. This is because it provides so many opportunities for children to build social skills, make sense of the world around them and develop language. As they play together and form a story, children have to negotiate roles, listen to others, use creativity and practice speech to communicate what is happening. The animals also feature beautiful detailing including ridges and curves which makes them very tactile and calming to touch. They proved very sturdy too, standing up to vigorous and messy play. It would be lovely to build up a collection of the figures over time to play with, that could then be handed down between family or friends."
