Armadillo is Spanish for "little armoured ones" and all species are to be found in the Americas. They have a leathery shell and long, sharp claws for digging for insect, grubs and other invertebrates. They have very poor eyesight but a keen sense of smell. They have short legs but can move very fast. They are found in South America.
